chuck hagel said the obama administration is rethinking its opposition to arming syrian rebels and has said the white house has not made a final decision. in other words, how do you feel about this? it comes after the white house told lawmakers if believes syria used chemical weapons on its own people but they're not sure. that's what they said last week. president obama said that be a game-changer, which has not changed. jennifer griffin at the pentagon. what is the context here? is this a big deal or offhanded remark or what? >> well, shepard, no. i think he actually indicated where the white house and the pentagon -- where their thoughts are right now. the white house and pentagon are essentially looking at three options. they're looking to set up a no-fly zone, or limited air strikes or arming the rebels or in combination. defense secretary hagel said, standing next to the british defense secretary, gave an indication which way the white house and pentagon are leaning. >> you are rethinking -- the administration is rethinking its opposition to arming the rebels. >> yes. >> today, a

, that -- like, that's not going to change. and president obama can't do that. the one thing that i think maureen makes a good point about, though, it's worth the white house paying attention to this, is that the president should never say i've done everything i can do. because nobody ever has. right? there's always more to do, there's always more to try and you can never be seen as kind of throwing up your hands and saying, well, it's all on them. and i'm done. and i think that that's kind of the -- the one sort of maybe even stylistic mistake that the president made in the press conference or he's making now, is that -- he needs to give people more that they can do, and he needs to keep doing more himself, and the republicans and stephanie is absolutely right, mitch mcconnell bears more of this blame than the president does but we ought to just keep talking about it. we ought to just keep pushing at it, and i think the president can never say it's -- you know, it's up to you guys now. he always has to have some new activity that he and other people can do to keep trying. >> dean, what about thi

reconnect business to the white house? >> that's the hope of the administration, certainly. she's somebody who had a close relationship with obama as a fund-raiser, somebody from his hometown. the labor troubles that you mentioned will probably add to her credibility in dealing with business because so of of the suspicion that business people usually have of democrats is that they're too closed to organized labor. so that probably will help her in the confirmation fight with republicans although it makes some democrats uneasy. some people are uneasy with the whole idea of taking people who raise money for a candidate and put them in power. but i expect that she will overcome that, be confirmed and so will mike froman who has been serving the administration, as the president said, doing economic international policy. i expect, as they depart for mexico, he is likely to have a relatively smooth and low drama confirmation fight. >> interesting. despite the concerns the president expressed. thank you very much, john howard in washington. >>> the ecb and jobs numbers tomorrow, how can you play
